A court in Barguna on Sunday rejected the bail petition of Aysha Siddika Minni, wife of Rifat Sharif, in a case over the killing of her husband in the town.

Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Sirajul Islam Gazi rejected the bail petition of Minni when her lawyers filed a petition seeking bail for her, reports UNB.

Ten lawyers stood for Minni while 40 represented the state.

On July 19, Aysha Siddika Minni reportedly confessed to her involvement in the murder before Barguna's Senior Judicial Magistrate.

Meanwhile, the family members of Rifat Sharif formed a human chain in front of Barguna Press Club at noon demanding immediate arrest of the attackers and transfer the case to the Speedy Trial Tribunal.

Later, Abdul Halim Sharif, father of Rifat Sharif, read out a written statement at a press conference where he claimed that Minni had link with the murder.

He said, "A vested quarter is involved in spreading propaganda in the social media and newspapers and thus obstructing the investigation process."

He demanded that Minni's father Mozammel Hossain and her mother be brought to book for concealing the information of marriage between Minni and Nayan Bond 'for which the murder of Rifat took place'.

Meanwhile, Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam, general secretary of Barguna District Bar Association, has been appointed as the counsel for Minni.

Rifat Sharif, 22, was attacked with sharp weapons near the main gate of Barguna Government College on June 26. His wife Minni appeared trying to protect him during the attack that was caught on surveillance camera.

Police arrested 16 people in this connection. But main accused Nayon Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on July 2.
