DU set to hold 51st convocation on Saturday

Dhaka University (DU) is set to hold its 51st convocation tomorrow (Saturday). A total of 21,111 graduates will attend the programme, the biggest event in the university’s history.

President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of the university, is scheduled to preside over the gala event at the central playground on the campus.

National Professor Anisuzzaman will address as the convocation speaker.

The convocation will begin at 11:30 am. Graduates can collect their certificates after completion of the convocation ceremony.

Registered graduates of the 7 affiliated colleges of Dhaka University will also participate in the convocation for the first time.

There will be two extended venues at two of the DU affiliated colleges – Eden Mohila College and Dhaka College – where around 4,000 graduates will participate. They will be connected with the main venue through digital technology, reports BSS.

At the convocation, a total of 96 gold medals will be distributed among students and teachers for their outstanding academic results and contributions.

A total of 81 researchers will be conferred with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees while 27 will be given Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degrees.

Teachers and students of DU and the affiliated colleges have collected their invitation cards and academic costumes for programme attendance.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman has sought cooperation of all to make the convocation a success and requested people to use alternative roads of the university on the day.
