Fortune Shoes tops turnover chart

Ten companies bag 28pc transactions

Ten most traded companies accounted for 28 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday, with the Fortune Shoes bagging the top spot on the turnover chart.

Market insiders said investors showed their appetite for the shoemaker's stocks after the company reported a 35 per cent earnings growth for the January-March quarter of 2019.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.

For the nine-month period from July 2018 to March 2019, the company's EPS was Tk 1.67 as against Tk 1.19 for the same period of the previous fiscal.

According to DSE data, some 16.04 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded on Wednesday, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 232 million, making up 7.49 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.09 billion on Wednesday, up from Tk 2.71 billion in the previous session.

The shoemaker's share closed at Tk 38.50 on the day, gaining 2.67 per cent over the previous day.

The company's share was traded between Tk 27.90 and Tk 40.40 in the last one year.

The Fortune Shoes, listed on the DSE in 2016, disbursed 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.25 billion, authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion and the total number of securities is 124.93 million.

The sponsor-directors own 30.93 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 9.90 per cent and the general public 59.17 per cent as of June 30, 2019.

The United Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 94 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 378.40, advancing 1.50 per cent over the previous day.

Silco Pharmaceuticals clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 80 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.24 per cent to close at Tk 27.20 each.

The Grameenphone emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 75 million changing hands. The largest market-cap company's share closed at Tk 326 each, losing 0.61 per cent.

Global Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 74 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 5.51 per cent to close at Tk 26.80 each.

The turnover of National Polymer was Tk 65 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 115.70 each, advancing 1.76 per cent over the previous day.

JMI Syringes featured a turnover of Tk 63 million. The company's share price inched up 0.07 per cent to close at Tk 458 each.

Sinobangla Industries featured a turnover of Tk 60 million. The company's share closed at Tk 67 each, losing 1.90 per cent.

The turnover of Federal Insurance was Tk 59 million. The company's share price rose 1.34 per cent to close at Tk 15.10 each.

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation also made its way to the day's top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 56 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.20 per cent to close at Tk 50.70 each.
