Fortune tops weekly turnover chart

Ten companies grab 24pc transactions on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for 24 per cent transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with the Fortune Shoes making it to the top of the turnover list.

Market insiders said investors continued to show their appetite for the shoemaker's stocks after the company reported a 35 per cent earnings growth for the January-March of 2019.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.54 for January-March 2019 as against Tk 0.40 for January-March 2018.

According to DSE statistics, about 25.19 million shares of Fortune Shoes were traded during the outgoing week, generating a turnover of Tk 965 million, making up 5.89 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 16.36 billion on during the week, down from Tk 21.12 billion in the previous session.

The shoemaker's share closed at Tk 39.90 on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, soaring 16 per cent over the week before.

The company's share was traded between Tk 27.90 and Tk 41.20 in the last one year.

The United Power came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 509 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 376.70, shedding 0.26 per cent over the previous week.

Grameenphone (GP) clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 356 million changing hands. The largest market-cap company's share price fell 0.39 per cent to close at Tk 330.30 each.

However, the GP's share plunged 8.35 per cent or Tk 30 each in the last one month following the telecom regulator's strict stance on GP.

The Sinobangla Industries emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 332 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 68.20 each, advancing 5.25 per cent over the previous week.

Federal Insurance Company notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 323 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 1.95 per cent to close at Tk 15.70 each on Thursday.

The turnover of Sea Pearl Beach Resort, which made trading debut on Tuesday, was Tk 306 million. The company's share closed at Tk 36.20 each on Thursday, jumping 262 per cent, from its issue price of Tk 10 each.
