An NGO worker was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at Haldiapalong union in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Mazharul Islam of Pirganj Colony Haat in Rangpur, reports a news agecny.
Manjur Alam, union parishad chairman, said on information locals recovered Mazharul’s body at around 8:30 at night from Moricha Guraiardip area and took him to Ukhiya Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
His name and birthplace were known from the identity card he was carrying, locals found some papers of BRAC NGO, he added.
Md Abul Mansur, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said the body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
