Rajshahi to provide mental development support to over 9,000 school children

Around 9,400 school children, both boys and girls are receiving life-building skills and support that will help them flourish their physical and mental development.

The children including 5,400 girls, aged six to fourteen, are getting the privileges through 17 socialisation centres under a three-year project titled “IKEA Good Cause Campaign”.

‘I Play, I Learn and I’m Safe’ is the theme of the project.

The project is being implemented in two wards of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and two municipality and three unions under Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district. Association for Community Development (ACD) is implementing the project in collaboration with Save the Children.

ACD staffs revealed the details while addressing a daylong annual workshop of the GCC at Godagari Municipality conference hall in the district on Wednesday. Municipality Mayor Monirul Islam, Panel Mayor Munira Begum, Social Service Officer Md Rasheduzzaman and Women Affairs Officer Sharmin Shapla addressed the meeting as guests of honour.

The meeting discussed elaborately on how to work together to support vulnerable children for reducing unsafe migration.

In his concept paper presentation, Soroj Kumar Biswash, Monitoring and Documentation Officer of ACD, said the project intends to prevent unsafe migration and advance the rights of children over protection, education and other various elements.

He details aims, activities and implementation strategy of the project that means to transform the children into worthy citizens through multidimensional approaches, according to a BSS report.

The meeting was told that 4,500 parents, 150 public representatives and 140 teachers are being imparted need-based training so that they can create and ensure congenial and convenient atmosphere for the children.
