Rivals stab local Secchasebok League leader in Ctg

The president of a local unit of Secchasebok League was stabbed to death allegedly by rivals in Chattogram on Monday night.

The dead man was identified as Jamal Uddin Akbar, 35, son of late Yasin Miah, and president of Kalagaon union Secchasebok League. He was killed in Kalagaon Tek area of Patiya upazila.

There had been a long standing dispute between Awami League and its different factions over dominance in the region, said Md Shafiq, in-charge of Patiya Kalarpool Police outpost.

Locals said Akbar's younger brother locked into an altercation with Secchasebok League leader Shahinur at around 9:00 pm. As situation intensified, Shahinur along with his supporters surrounded the area and swooped on Akbar, leaving him with critical stab injuries.

Being rescued by locals, the victim was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 10:00 pm.

Two years ago, general secretary Bahadur of Kalagaon union Secchasebok League was also stabbed to death by some miscreants, UNB reported.

Reports add that the accused murderers of Bahadur were released from jail on bail recently.
