Summit Power tops DSE turnover chart

Top ten traded cos grab 40pc transaction

Top ten traded companies captured more than 40 per cent turnover of the major bourse on Thursday while Summit Power topped the list.

Market insiders said the investors showed their buying appetite on Summit Power's shares amid dividend expectations.

Summit Power is a concern of the country's largest independent power producer (IPP) -- Summit Group.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 11.73 million shares of Summit Power were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 594 million, which was 9.20 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 6.45 billion, which was Tk 8.02 billion on the previous day.

Each share of the power generation company closed at Tk 49.40 on Thursday, gaining 1.86 per cent over the previous day.

The Summit Power, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2005, disbursed 30 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017.

For the nine months period (July 2017-March 2018), the company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 3.37 as against Tk 2.74 for July 2016-March 2017.

The consolidated net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) was Tk 3.83 for July 2017-March 2018 as against Tk 3.19 for July 2016-March 2017.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 29.09 as on March 31, 2018 and Tk 29.02 as on June 30, 2017.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 10.67 billion and authorised capital Tk 15 billion while the total number of securities is 1.06 billion.

The sponsor-directors own 63.18 per cent stake in the company while institutional investors own 18.18 per cent, foreign investors 3.65 per cent and the general public 14.37 per cent as of September 30, 2018.

Khulna Power followed next, with shares worth Tk 573 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 136.30 each, losing 2.15 per cent over the previous day.

United Power clinched the third spot with shares worth Tk 379 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 2.61 per cent to close at Tk 354.10 each.

Beximco emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 281 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 25.70, advancing 6.20 per cent.

Dragon Sweater notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 157 million changing hands. The company's share price shed 1.48 per cent to close at Tk 33.80 each.

The turnover of Olympic Industries was Tk 134 million. The company's share price slumped 5.83 per cent to close at Tk 235.80 each.

Nurani Dyeing featured a turnover of Tk 128 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 21.80 each, advancing 5.31 per cent.

The turnover of BBS Cables was Tk 126 million. The company's share price fell 1.28 per cent to close at Tk 122.70 each.

Singer Bangladesh featured a turnover of Tk 122 million. The company's share price also fell 1.28 per cent to close at Tk 230.80 each.

Active Fine Chemicals was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 117 million changing hands.

The company's share price closed at Tk 43 each, shedding 0.23 per cent over the previous day.
