A Dhaka court has ordered the arrest of former officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Model Police Station Moazzem Hossain in a case filed for filming a rape victim without consent during interrogation and circulating it on the internet.
Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash Shams Joglul Hossain issued the arrest warrant after Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a report substantiating his involvement in rape victim Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi's interrogation video-tape leak.
The court set June 27 for further hearing on the case, local media reports say.
A Supreme Court Lawyer, Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the case against former OC Moazzem on April 15 under the Digital Security Act.
On April 10, Moazzem was withdrawn, and then on May 8, suspended over negligence of duty. He is now attached to the office of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rangpur zone).
Nusrat was set afire on April 6 as she allegedly refused to withdraw a case filed against her madarasa principal on charges of sexually harassing her on March 27.
After losing her five days of battle for life, she died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on April 10 touching off outrage across the country.
