Opener Imrul Kayes has scored a half-century as he helps Bangladesh to recover after a shaky start to their first match against Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe's Tendai Chatara picked up the wickets of Liton Das and Fazle Mahmud in the sixth over to leave the Tigers at 17-2, reports bdnews24.com.

But opener Imrul Kayes and Mishfiqur Rahim began to rebuild, only for Mushfiq to be dismissed in the 15th over.

Imrul reached his half-century in the 20th over and continued on with the help of Mohammad Mithun.

At the end of 23 overs, Bangladesh were 112-3.

The Tigers kicked off the three-match one-day international series against the visitors at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Sunday by winning the match and choosing to bat.

Bangladesh have beaten Zimbabwe in the last 13 matches on home soil. But captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said that the Tigers would face them with the same seriousness they showed in the Asia Cup.

“The challenge is the same as every other match,” he said. “Everyone expects us to win and we hope to do the same. That is natural. But I think that we will take up the challenge the same way as we did during the Asia Cup.”
