Low-cap cos' share prices continue to soar on bourses

Listed companies with low market capitalisation dominated the gainers' chart of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Tuesday though they had no price sensitive information (PSI).

The premier bourse served show-case notices on some of the low-cap companies several times. The companies, in knee-jerk replies however, informed the premier bourse that they have no price sensitive information for recent unusual price hike.

"Even after serving of show-cause notice, the prices some of them continued to rise, to hit the innocent investors hard," said an analyst, seeking anonymity.

He noted that investors should be careful about the unusual price hike of the low-profile companies.

An official of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) said they are looking into the matter and the investors should also be careful about the unusual price hike of the low-cap companies.

The chairman of the securities regulator Prof. M Khairul Hossain also said at a workshop on Monday that investors should be careful about remour in the capital market.

Of the companies, Orion Infusion dominated the day's gainer chart, soaring 9.93 per cent to close at Tk 58.70 each on Tuesday. The company's share price jumped 30 per cent within 10 trading days.

The recently listed - SK Trims Industries -- was the day's second highest gainer, posting a gain of 9.92 per cent to close at Tk 43.20. Its share price surged nearly 55 per cent in the 10 trading days since October 28.

Another low-cap company - JMI Syringes -- emerged as third, posting a gain of 9.64 per cent to close at Tk 201.30 on the day. The company's share price jumped 12 per cent within 10 days.
