Square, Beximco Pharma, GP dominate turnover chart

Grameenphone sees the highest closing price since listing

Top 10 traded companies accounted for more than 40 per cent transactions of the premier bourse Tuesday while Square Pharmaceuticals, Beximco Pharma and Grameenphone dominated the list.

Dealers said the fundamentally sound issues like Square Pharma, Grameenphone continued to attract investors as they are anticipating positive quarterly earning declarations.

The telecom sector continued to surge as GP, the country's largest market-cap listed company's shares price closed at Tk 503.80, the highest closing price since listing with the capital market in 2009.

The investors remained active buying the Square Pharma's shares as the company started construction of its manufacturing plant of Square Pharmaceuticals Kenya EPZ, a subsidiary of Square Pharma in Nairobi recently.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 1.35 million shares of Square Pharma were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 449 million, which was 7.98 per cent of the premier bourse's total transactions.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.63 billion which was 12 per cent higher than the previous day's turnover of Tk 5.02 billion.

Square Pharma, the second largest market-cap company's price hovered between Tk 328 and Tk 335, before closing at Tk 333.20, shedding 0.18 per cent over the previous session.

The pharma sector company also posted 24.36 per cent growth in consolidated earnings per share (EPS) in the third quarter (Q3) of July-September, 2017 period. The EPS was Tk 4.39 for the period against Tk 3.53 for July-September, 2016.

Apart from Square Pharma, the most other active shares in terms of value included Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Grameenphone, IFAD Autos, Dragon Sweater, Paramount Textile, Monno Ceramic Industries, BBS Cables, Shahjalal Islami Bank and City Bank.

The Beximco Pharma grabbed the second position with shares worth Tk 397 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 110.10, advancing 2.89 per cent over the previous day.

GP clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 372 million changing hands. The largest market cap listed company's share price advanced 1.90 per cent to close at Tk 503.80. The lone listed mobile company's share price traded between Tk 297 and Tk 506.90 in the last one year.

IFAD Autos emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 310 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 135.70, advancing 0.37 per cent over the previous day.
