Ten companies account for 23pc turnover on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for 23 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Thursday, with the National Life Insurance making it to the top of the turnover chart for the second straight session.

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 696,948 shares of National Life were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 177 million, which was 3.63 per cent of the day's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 4.87 billion on Thursday.

The life insurer's share traded between Tk 243.80 and Tk 264.90 on Thursday, before closing at Tk 263.80 each, soaring 8.25 per cent over the previous session.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 134.60 and Tk 283.30 in the last one year.

The National Life Insurance, listed on the DSE in 1995, disbursed 20 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 2017.

However, the company is yet to declare dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.08 billion, authorised capital is Tk 2.0 billion and the total number of securities is 108.52 million.

The sponsor-directors own 82.65 per cent stake in the company, while institutions 10.92 per cent and the general public 6.43 per cent as of May 31, 2019, the DSE data show.

Runner Automobiles came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 154 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 106.40 each, losing 2.65 per cent over the previous day.

Silco Pharmaceuticals clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 131 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 4.24 per cent to close at Tk 27 each.

Paramount Textile emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 121 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 65.20, advancing 4.32 per cent.

JMI Syringes & Medical Devices notched the fifth spot, with shares worth more than Tk 120 million changing hands. The company's price soared 5.39 per cent to close at Tk 473.30 each.

The turnover of United Power was Tk 111 million. The power generation company's share closed at Tk 375.60 each, down 0.68 per cent over the previous session.

Singer Bangladesh featured a turnover of Tk 86 million. The company's share price fell 0.35 per cent to close at Tk 200.40 each.

The turnover of Dhaka Insurance was Tk 77 million. The company's share closed at Tk 34 each, advancing 8.28 per cent.

Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 76 million. The company's share price rose 5.15 per cent to close at Tk 57.10 each.

New Line Clothings also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 73 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 25.50 each, remaining unchanged over the previous day.
