Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) accorded a reception to Mirza Salman Ispahani, Chairman of M M Ispahani Limited and also managing director & chairman of Pahartali Textile and Hosiery Mills, for being elected the president of International Cotton Association (ICA).

The BTMA honoured Mr Ispahani at a programme, held at its office in the city on Monday, said a BTMA statement.

Terming the achievement of Mirza Salman Ispahani 'prestigious and extraordinary', the BTMA said he is the first spinner in this sub-continent who has been elected as the president of ICA.

Speaking on the occasion, the BTMA President Tapan Chowdhury welcomed Mr Ispahani and requested him to play an active role for resolving any complication regarding cotton sales or purchases.

Mr Ispahani also expressed his gratitude to the BTMA for honouring him and assured the association of providing all necessary cooperation to protect the interests of cotton business.

Mirza Ispahani was elected as the President of the ICA for 2017-2018 session. The election was held in Singapore on 13th October 2017, according to a statement.

The ICA, world's leading cotton trade association and arbitral body, was formed over 170 years ago when a group of cotton brokers created a set of bylaws and rules to help regulate the sale and purchase of raw cotton in 1841 at Liverpool city in the United Kingdom.

About 90 per cent of world's cotton is traded internationally under ICA Bylaws and Rules.

The ICA now has more than 550 members and its membership spans all corners of the globe and represents all sectors of the supply chain, said the statement.
