Secondary trading of t-bills, bonds declines in February

Secondary trading of the treasury bills and bonds declined in February, according to the latest statistics of the central bank.

In terms of the turnover volume, it was down by 55 million to Tk 5.56 billion from 5.01 billion in January, the data showed. The secondary trading has been conducted through primary dealers.

Annual turnover of the secondary trading of the t-bills and t-bonds stood at Tk 282.91 billion in the past calendar year.

Currently, 20 commercial banks are performing as primary dealers, participating directly in the primary auctions.

Other bank and non bank investors can participate in primary auctions and in secondary trading through their nominated primary dealers.

As for non-resident individual and institutional investors, they also can do primary and secondary trading, but on a limited scale, only in treasury bonds.

T-bonds are long-term fixed income government securities while t-bills are short-term in nature.
