Stocks extend winning streak for second day

Stocks ended higher for the two consecutive sessions on Wednesday as investors continued their buying appetite on sector-wise stocks.

Market insiders said investors’ enthusiasm sustained as local and foreign investors remained active on the market amid positive expectation.

The market started the session with upbeat vibe and continued till the closure as the optimistic investors were active on sector specific issues.

At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 45.56 points or 0.85 per cent to settle at 5,348.

The two other indices also ended higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced nearly 13 points to finish at 1,894 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 5.90 points to close at 1,257.

Bullish sentiment was also reflected on the trading activities as total turnover on the DSE rose to Tk 7.40 billion, which was 1.10 per cent higher than the previous day’s Tk 7.32 billion.

Of the 336 issues traded on the DSE trading floor, 169 closed higher, 124 lower and 43 issues remained unchanged.

A total number of 157,994 trades were executed in the day’s trading session on the DSE with trading volume of 210.81 million securities.

The market capitalisation of the DSE came down to Tk 3,861 billion on the day which was Tk 3,841 billion in the previous session.

BBS Cables topped the DSE turnover chart with 2.97 million shares worth Tk 318 million changing hands.

The other turnover leaders were Fortune Shoes, United Power, BD Thai Aluminium and IFAD Autos.

IPDC was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.89 per cent while Meghna Pet Industries was the worst loser, losing 10 per cent.

The port city bourse ended higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – advancing 140 points to settle at 16,436 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX –gaining 88 points to finish at 9,950.

The gainers beat losers as 129 issues closed higher, 94 ended lower, with 23 issues remaining unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 10.60 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 307 million in turnover.
