Industries Secretary Abdul Halim on Saturday said Bangladesh Industrial and Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC) is building employment opportunities for the needy and poor youth while helping in poverty reduction.
He laid emphasis on technical education and developing entrepreneurship as they will help achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) by 2030.
Mr Halim lauded the role of BITAC for providing technical education and developing entrepreneurship among them through Self-Employment and Poverty Alleviation (SEPA) project.
The industries secretary was speaking at a Motivational Workshop Programme for the female trainee as the chief guest at the BITAC auditorium in the capital.
Dr Md Mafizur Rahman, director general of BITAC and an additional secretary, chaired the event.
Additional secretary of the Ministry of Finance Arfin Ara Begum and deputy secretary of the same Bilquis Jahan Rimi, among others, spoke on the occasion as the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dr Md Mafizur Rahman said from July 2009 to September 2018, a total of 22,780 people took training through the SEPA project and 99 per cent of the trainees are employed in the industrial sector.
Of the total, 9,581 female and 13199 male trainees are contributing to their families and to the economy, he added.
SEPA project began in 2009. Under the project 300 females in each batch are getting three months duration training in nine trades in Dhaka centre and males are getting two months training in three trades in other four centres.
