The telecom regulator recently has selected four companies who will get licences to provide mobile towers in the country.

The four companies are edotco Bangladesh, TASC Summit Towers, iSON Tower Bangladesh and AB Hightech Consortium.

An official of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission told bdnews24.com on Thursday that the decision has been taken after a meeting.

The regulator will award the licences to the companies after getting the green light from the telecoms ministry.

Eight companies had to vie for getting the license to provide towers out of which these four were selected.

At present, the country’s mobile phone operators have over 30,000 towers, according to the BTRC.

According to a guideline, tower companies will operate all the mobile phone towers.

A foreign firm is allowed to hold a maximum of 70 per cent stake in a tower sharing company, according to the guideline.
