The former Sheraton and Ruposhi Bangla hotel will reopen as InterContinental Dhaka from May this year.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal revealed the information on Tuesday while replying to a question from lawmaker Israfil Alam.

The hotel was closed on September of 2014 for repair works following the deal signed between state-owned Bangladesh Services Ltd (BSL) and leading international hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group.

BSL, which owns the hotel, signed the deal to manage and operate the hotel.

After signing the deal, the hotel was also operated as Ruposhi Bangla Hotel before closing for an extensive renovation.

Intercontinental ran the state-owned hotel before Sheraton took over its management in 1983. It was operated as Sheraton before taking Ruposhi Bangla title.
