Potentials of light engineering industries stressed

Speakers at seminar on Sunday stressed the need for taking time-befitting work plans and implementing those for utilising the huge potentials of light engineering industries in the country.

If investment in light engineering industries would increase, modern technologies could be introduced and the entrepreneurs could be trained well, this sector would bring better outcome in near future, they said.

Bangladesh Industrial and Technical Assistance Center (BITAC) organised the seminar titled 'Sustainable Growth by Manufacturing Engineering' at CIRDAP auditorium in the city, reports UNB.

In Bangladesh total investment in light engineering sector is only 15 billion US dollar against the demand of $7 trillion light engineering products in the global market, they said.

The speakers said if productivity in the light engineering sector could be raised and production of world class product is possible through introduction of Computerised Numerical Control (CNC) instead of present analogue system, they opined.

While presenting the keynote paper, BITAC Tool Institute Project Director Dr Sayed Md Ehsanul Karim said the demand of light engineering products in global market is very high and Bangladesh has the potential to catch the market.

Addressing the seminar as the chief guest, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said the government will provide all necessary support for the development of light engineering industries.

BITAC Director General Dr Md Mofizur Rahman chaired the seminar while additional secretary to Industries Ministry Md Enamul Haq attended the programme as the special guest.
