Export and import between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port  halted due to an indefinite strike.

The Indian truckers called the strike from Thursday morning.

They stopped carrying imported goods demanding unconditional release of an Indian truck, which was seized 15 days back after firearms were recovered from it.

Hundreds of trucks loaded with imported goods got stranded on both sides of the border.

Kartik Chakrabarty, general secretary of Indian C & F Agent Staff Welfare Association, said that they would continue their strike until the seized truck is released without any condition.

Around 5,000 trucks loaded with imported goods got stranded on the Indian side while 200 hundred trucks loaded with export items got stuck at Benapole port due to the strike.

The loading and unloading of goods and delivery of goods also remained normal though export-import activities have remained suspended for strike, said Benapole Port Director Aminul Islam, says a UNB report.

Earlier on November 9, on secret information, a joint team of customs, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police raided an Indian truck, bearing registration number N-23 P-0373, and seized a single shooter gun and two bullets.
