Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has announced to reduce salaries of cabinet ministers by 10 per cent.

The ninety-two-year-old Mahathir made the announcement after his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, reports Reuters.

The new PM took the decision as his government would try to cut the national debt, which he put at 65 per cent of GDP.

Mahathir also said his government would decide “very soon” on whether to continue with the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur high speed rail project.
