The government is working to transform Bangladesh from a labour-intensive economy into one driven by knowledge and innovation, with a strong focus on developing high-technology industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), advanced chip design and bioelectronics, ICT Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has said.
The minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology said this on Sunday while speaking as the chief guest at a session titled "Bangladesh Deep-Tech Future" on the second day of the two-day National Semiconductor Symposium and BEAR Summit 2026 at the National Science and Technology Complex (Novo Theatre) in Dhaka.
He said Bangladesh aspires to become not only a user of technology but also a developer and producer of advanced technologies.
The adviser said the government's long-term vision is to build a knowledge-based economy by promoting research, innovation and high-value technology industries.
Highlighting the country's ambitions in the semiconductor and deep-tech sectors, he called for greater emphasis on establishing the "Made in Bangladesh" brand in the innovation, production and export of technology products and services.
He assured stakeholders that the government would continue providing all necessary support to accelerate the growth of the semiconductor and deep-tech industries.
"The country's young people are capable of leading this sector. The government will stand beside them through innovation, research and policy support," he said.
Referring to the BEAR Summit, Mr Anam said the event had demonstrated that Bangladesh was not pursuing its technological ambitions alone.
"Leading global technology companies, universities, industry leaders, expatriate Bangladeshis and experts are joining us. This is not merely a conference; it is the beginning of a movement," he said.
Addressing business leaders attending the event, the adviser described the current administration as business-friendly and pledged government support for the technology industry.
"Whenever you need us, you will find me by your side. We will do everything necessary to create opportunities for you and accelerate the country's technological advancement," he said.
The programme also featured a global academic plenary session, where Professor Dimitrios Peroulis, Senior Vice-President of Purdue University, delivered the keynote address.
Among others present were Science and Technology Secretary Md Anwar Hossain, Professor Mohammad Mostafa Hossain, Chief Architect of Silicon River Bangladesh, and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director General of the National Science and Technology Complex (Novo Theatre).
