Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostaqur Rahman on Monday stated that making 'Bangla QR' mandatory for financial transactions across the country will significantly reduce the risks of carrying cash while making payments faster, easier, and more secure.

Speaking as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the 'Bangla QR Reels Making Competition' at the central bank's headquarters, the governor emphasized that the universal QR system will relieve the public from the hassles of counterfeit and damaged currency notes, UNB reports.

"The world is now utilizing modern digital technologies for financial transactions. We are starting with Bangla QR, and we are optimistic that the country will adopt even more state-of-the-art technologies in the future," Rahman said, highlighting that Bangla QR became mandatory for transactions on July 1, 2026.

He noted that the central bank has already issued necessary directives instructing all banks and Mobile Financial Services (MFS) providers to take required measures so that customers can seamlessly use Bangla QR.

During the ceremony, Governor Rahman handed over prizes to the top ten winners of the competition. Bangladesh Bank organized the reel-making contest to raise public awareness and promote the widespread adoption of Bangla QR in everyday financial activities.

The event was attended by Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors, the Head of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Executive Directors, and Directors of the central bank, among other senior officials.
