Stocks ended higher on Tuesday as bargain hunters continued accumulating fundamentally strong and selective shares, encouraged by optimism surrounding the ongoing quarterly earnings season.

The benchmark DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange rose 60.49 points, or 1.04 per cent, to close at 5,900.

The capital bourse extended its rally for a second straight session as easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and growing optimism over strong sector-specific corporate earnings boosted investor confidence, prompting broad-based buying across the market, according to EBL Securities.

The DS30 index, comprising leading blue-chip companies, increased 17.93 points to 2,219.49, while the DSES index, which tracks Shariah-based stocks, increased 12.87 points to 1,201.45.

The market maintained the positive momentum seen in the previous trading day, with buying interest strengthening after midday. Fresh accumulation in most listed stocks lifted the benchmark index back near the 5,900 level after nearly two weeks, according to EBL Securities.

Market participation improved on Tuesday, with turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increasing to Tk 12.6 billion from Tk 8.7 billion in the previous session.

Gainers outnumbered Losers on the DSE floor. Of the 393 issues traded, 284 closed higher, and 60 ended lower, while 49 remained unchanged.

Textile stocks dominated trading, accounting for 23.0 per cent of total turnover, followed by Engineering with 14.4 per cent and Pharmaceuticals with 11.4 per cent.

All major sectors closed in positive territory. Textile and Life Insurance emerged as the top gainers, each rising 2.3 per cent, while the Food sector advanced 2.0 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher. Its Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) rose 78.7 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) gained 134.4 points.
