A family in Chapainawabganj Sadar has lost three of its members to electrocution after they came into contact with an electrified metal ladder.

The victims include a grandmother and her 12-year-old granddaughter.

The accident occurred about 7:00 am on Tuesday in Badurtala village under Baroghoria Union, said Sub-Inspector Arifur Rahman of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station.

The dead have been identified as Hasina Begum, 50; her niece Asha Khatun, 35; and Hasina's granddaughter Shahriyar Mim, 12, all from the same village, bdnews24.com reports.

Police and witnesses said Hasina climbed a metal ladder to tie leaves for the family's goats. The ladder had already become live, and she was electrocuted as soon as she touched it.

Seeing her in danger, Asha and Mim rushed to help. They also came into contact with the electrified ladder and were electrocuted.

SI Rahman said police reached the scene after receiving the report and legal procedures are underway.
