Two people were killed and another was injured in an attack by their rival group over establishing supremacy in Debinagar village of Khoksha upazila in Kushtia district early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Faruk Hossain, 40, son of Chand Ali, and Abdul Sheikh, 25, son of Atier Sheikh, both residents of the village, reports UNB.
Molla Zakir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Khoksha Police Station, said Salim Hossain and Mintu Chowkidar of Debinagar village had been at loggerheads for a long time over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of Mintu, equipped with sharp weapons, stormed Salim Hossain's house around 1:00 am.
At one stage, they attacked three supporters of Salim with sharp weapons, leaving Faruk Hossain and Abdul Sheikh, dead on the spot and injuring Mulluk Mandal.
The injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.
A tense situation has been prevailing in the area following the incident.
Police are trying to arrest those involved in the attack, the OC said.
