A two-day ‘Armed Forces Income Tax Fair-2018′ started at Sena Malancha convention hall in Dhaka on Wednesday with an aim to facilitate tax services to the armed forces’ members.

Tax Zone-9, Dhaka, of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the Armed Forces Division (AFD) jointly organised the tax fair.

Adjutant General of Bangladesh Army Major General Mohammad Humayun Kabir inaugurated the fair at a ceremony.

NBR member (Tax administration and human resources management) Ziauddin Mahmud attended the inaugural ceremony as special guest.

Commissioner of the Tax Zone-9 Mahmudur Rahman presided over the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Humayun Kabir said income tax is playing a vital role in continuing the country’s development activities.

He urged the NBR officials to make the tax return submission process easier so that everybody can submit their returns easily.

Ziauddin Mahmud said there is no alternative to boosting tax collection for strengthening the country’s economy. “That’s why everybody should pay tax,” he added.

Mahmudur Rahman said income tax payment is also important for ensuring good governance and accountability in the country.

At the fair venue, tax officials are offering various tax-related services, including taxpayer identification number (TIN) registration, return submission, and consultancy.

Besides, the NBR, Sonali Bank and Trust Bank limited set up booths at the fair premises for facilitating financial transactions.

Earlier, the NBR organised a week-long national income tax fair at 166 spots across the country from November 13 to 19.
