Govt puts on hold all types of spending from block allocation

As part of belt-tightening measures, the government has put on hold all types of spending from block allocation under its operating budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.

To this effect, the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday issued a notification, outlining suspension/lowering of some spending and limiting foreign travels by public sector employees, under the operating and development budget also.

According to the notification, no vehicles and water cars can be bought from the funds allocated under operating budget.

It, however, said with prior approval from the finance division vehicles aged over 10 years can be replaced by using the fund.

Any new buildings cannot be built with the funds allocated under the operating budget except for education, health, and agriculture sector.

However, funds can be spent in the case of those, construction works of which have been completed minimum 50 per cent, with prior approval from the finance division.

Also, the notification directed to keep suspended spending of funds allocated for land acquisition.

Under the development budget, procurement of all kinds of vehicles will remain suspended while land can be acquired with finance division's prior approval, it said.

The public-sector employees' participation in seminars, symposiums and workshops abroad under operating and development budgets will remain suspended.

However, there will be some exceptions in case of some foreign tours with prior government approvals, it said.
