The volume of classified loans or non-performing loans (NPLs) in the country’s banking sector hit an all-time high of Tk 1.82 trillion at the end of March, 2024.
In fact, the figure of bad loans increased by Tk 364 billion in just three months from December, 2023 when the volume of classified loans was Tk 1.46 trillion, according to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country’s central bank.
In terms of percentage, the ratio of bad loans against the total outstanding loans reached 11.11 per cent from 9.0 per cent recorded after December, 2023.
