Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) launched its Supply Chain Management major on July 16, 2026, through a program titled Bridging Academia and Industry: Meet, Connect, Lead, organised by the Department of General Management under the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE).
The launch marked the introduction of the new major after six years of academic planning and development and brought together university leaders and industry representatives to discuss the role of supply chain management in business and higher education, according to a media release.
Prof. Dr. Raisul Awal Mahmood, Dean (Acting), School of Business and Entrepreneurship, delivered the welcome address.
Prof. M. Tamim, Vice Chancellor of IUB, gave the opening remarks, followed by remarks from Mr. Didar A. Husain, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB.
The panel discussion was kicked off by Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun Habib, renowned SCM Global expert and Head of the Department of General Management, who highlighted the growing significance of supply chain management in today’s interconnected and technology-driven business environment.
The panel featured Mr Niaz Rahim, Group Managing Director and CEO, Rahimafrooz; Mr Humayun Rashid, Managing Director, Energypac Power Generation PLC; Mr Mirza Shajib Raihan, Director, American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham); and Dr Md Mahbub Alam, Partner, The World Bank.
The discussion covered the introduction of the Supply Chain Management major at IUB and its significance, bridging the gap between academia and industry, the evolution of supply chain management across industries, key supply chain management issues, and the skills required for careers in the field. The panelists also responded to questions from students during an interactive question-and-answer session.
Prof Dr Daniel W Lund, Pro-Vice Chancellor of IUB, delivered the vote of thanks. Dr Husne Ara Ali, Member of the Board of Trustees; deans, heads, faculty members, students, and guests were present in the ceremony.
The program was hosted by Afnan Yusuf, Lecturer, and Zerin Momtaz Chowdhury, Lecturer.
