Professor Dr Mohammad Sohel Rana of the Department of Pharmacy at Jahangirnagar University (JU) formally assumed office as the university's new Treasurer on Tuesday.
He took charge at a brief ceremony held in the Council Room of the university's Administrative Building.
The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, the two Pro-Vice-Chancellors (Academic and Administration), leaders of the Teachers' Association, student representatives, and leaders of the university journalists' associations.
Prof Kamrul Ahsan praised the new Treasurer's capabilities, expressing confidence that the university would benefit from his leadership.
He also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing Treasurer Professor Md Abdur Rob, commending his sincere and dedicated service.
In his remarks, Prof Sohel Rana pledged to uphold financial transparency and accountability while contributing to the improvement of the university's academic standards.
"I see this office not as a position, but as a responsibility," he said.
He also requested colleagues to avoid unnecessary formalities, saying, "Please do not bring flowers to congratulate me. I am one of you, and I do not want to be placed at a distance from you."
