Rajshahi Collegiate School celebrates 190th founding anniversary

Rajshahi Collegiate School, one of the oldest schools in the subcontinent, has celebrated its 190th founding anniversary festival amidst a two-day fanfare and participation of a large number of old and present students.
Local lawmaker and General Secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazely Hossain Badsha, MP, who is also a former student of the school, attended and addressed the closing ceremony of the event last night as chief guest.
British Governor General of India Lord William Bentinck established the school in 1828 on 0.9725 acres of land and named it “Bawlia English School” to spread English language all over the country.
This is the first and oldest school in the country and has a long tradition and reputation of spreading the light of education, reports BSS.
More than 4,000 former and current students joined the programme.
Chaired by President of former students association Dr Shahadat Hossain Rawshan, the closing session was addressed, among others, by former students Major Gen (Retd) Jamil Ahsan and Brig Gen (Retd) AHM Abdul Momen.
