A delegation from the youth-led National Citizen Party (NCP) will travel to China later in August at the invitation of the Chinese government.
The eight-strong team will be led by NCP convener Nahid Islam, who is also due to travel to Malaysia on Saturday. The China trip will run from Aug 26-31, party officials said.
Ahead of the visit, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen met senior NCP leaders in Dhaka on Friday.
Those present included Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Northern Region Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Member Secretary Nahida Sarwar Niva, Joint Convener Mahbub Alam, and Joint Member Secretary Tahsin Riaz. Party member secretary Akhtar Hossain, who is also part of the delegation, could not attend as he was outside Dhaka.
“The visit comes at the invitation of the Chinese government,” said Riaz.
“It will include political discussions and cultural exchanges. We are scheduled to meet the central body of the Communist Party’s international department as well as several provincial bodies.”
Since its formation, the NCP has toured Bangladesh and now plans to extend visits to countries with large Bangladeshi communities. As part of this, Nahid is set to embark on his first overseas trip to Malaysia.
