Musicians Emon Chowdhury and Hashim Mahmud have woven together tribal and folk traditions in a new love song, “Baaji,” the fourth track of Coke Studio Bangla’s third season.

The song was released on Saturday night.

In a statement, the music platform said the song celebrates the cultural diversity of Bangladesh through “music and melody”.

“Baaji” was composed and directed by Emon, with Mahmud also contributing vocals.

“It is a real joy to see Coke Studio Bangla back,” Emon said.

“We are very excited to bring the song Baaji to our listeners.”

“The song is very special to us because the artists have given it their all,” he added.

“The lyrics, melody, dance, and visuals are all a harmonious combination that captures the image of Bangladesh.”

The song draws from a wide range of folk traditions, weaving indigenous instruments with vibrant visuals.

The sarod is played against modern melodies, creating what Emon described as a balance between old folk tunes and contemporary sound.

The production also highlights Tangail’s traditional Dhua Gaan Dal, who sing alongside a circular dance.

The soundscape is further deepened by flutist Kyoprou Marma and his grandmother, Mrakoi Ching Marma, who contributed vocals in the Marma language.

Mrakoi Ching, a resident of the Bandarban hills, adds a distinctive voice to the song.

The Bawm community of the Chattogram Hill Tracts performed classical tribal dances, while Manipuri Pung drummers brought acrobatic elements of Pung Cholam (a classical Manipuri dance form), adding rhythm and dynamism to the piece.

“Baaji” is available on Spotify and Coke Studio Bangla’s official YouTube channel.
