Fitness culture is changing very fast in Dhaka. People want to stay healthy and strong. Not only that, people find it an escape from daily hurdles in life, especially women.
Women are joining fitness clubs in large numbers. A big part of this trend is the rise of women-only gyms. Traditional gyms were mostly for men in the past. Women often felt shy or uncomfortable in those shared spaces. Today, women-only fitness centres are opening all over the city. These spaces give women a chance to work out with complete peace of mind.
Safety and comfort are the main reasons for this major shift.
Many female students and workers do not like mixed crowds. They want a secure environment where they can exercise freely.
Nadia is a university student in Dhaka. She goes to the gym for weight loss. She talks about safety in fitness spaces. "I always worried about safety in regular gyms," Nadia says. "When I joined a women-only space, my fear went away completely. I can focus on my workout without feeling watched, taken videos or unsafe."
Her words show a common feeling among young women in the city. Families also feel happy to send their daughters and wives to these safe zones.
Parents feel relaxed when their daughters train in a secure place. This trust helps more women step out of their homes. They join fitness centres without any social fear.
Comfort plays a huge role in daily workouts too. Fitness centres designed only for women offer many helpful options.
They provide modern machines, weight loss routines, and group classes. Many gyms also offer yoga, Zumba, and steam baths.
Faria Zaman is a fitness freak. She also does a corporate job in Dhaka. She talks about the benefits she gets from her gym.
"The facilities in a women-only gym are great," Faria explains. "I get clean changing rooms, good lockers, and expert female trainers who understand my body goals. It feels very comfortable after a long day at work."
Working women face high stress every day. They need a calm place to release their work pressure. Good facilities make their gym time productive. Clean showers and proper gear add extra comfort. Women can spend hours here without any rush or worry.
Is cost an obstacle for women who want to join these spaces?
For some students, money can be a tight issue. However, many local spots keep their prices reasonable.
Places like SBC Ladies Gym in Pallabi, Slim Point Gym in Mirpur, and Inspiron Ladies Gym in Dhanmondi offer student-friendly packages. Monthly fees often range from 1,000 to 4,000 Taka.
Some gyms even waive admission charges for long-term signups. Cost is sometimes a barrier, but affordable options are making fitness reachable for many middle-class women.
Trainers also notice this big change in fitness culture. They see why more women are joining and why new branches are opening up. A local gym trainer talks about this growth.
"More women-only gyms are rising because women need a private and judgment-free zone," the trainer says. "Fitness should be open to everyone, and safety makes that possible."
Trainers note that female clients are very dedicated. They follow diet plans and workout schedules strictly. They push their limits during weight training sessions. The old myth that lifting weights makes women bulky is gone now. Women want to build real core strength.
What does the future hold for fitness culture in Dhaka? The future looks very bright and promising. More neighbourhoods are welcoming private fitness hubs for women. Experts believe that digital fitness tracking and smart nutrition counselling will soon join regular gym routines. Women are taking charge of their health. They are lifting weights, doing cardio, and building strength without social judgment. Fitness has become a daily habit for many. As more affordable options open up, this trend will grow even stronger in the coming years.
