A journalist has sued actress Shomi Kaiser for discourtesy behaving with his fellow journalists at a ceremony in Dhaka city.

Miah Mohammad Nuzhatul Hasan, editor of Student Journal BD news portal, filed the suit with a court, local media reports say.

Asaduzzaman Nur, an additional Dhaka metropolitan magistrate, with whose court the case was filed, said he will issue an order after recording statements of the complainant about this  on Tuesday afternoon.

On April 24, Shomi Kaiser, also president of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), lost her two smartphones while giving a speech at an event at the National Press Club in the capital.

Right after her speech, as she was about to cut a cake there, Shomi Kaiser suddenly said that she was not finding her phones.

She, however, said that her phones were still on and none was picking those up when phoning.

Her security guards locked the gate and moved to search all the journalists and the guests, suspecting someone of those present had stolen the phones, and those present also agreed to cooperate with this.

There were some 50 journalists and more than one hundred guests inside the gate and they had to be stranded inside for more than half an hour.

The journalists became angry because of the way the security guards were searching them, and they protested.

Amid the protests, Shomi reportedly called the journalists thieves, sparking anger and strong condemnation from the media people there.

Later, footage recorded by journalists shows that the phones were stolen by a worker who brought a cake for the event.
