Bangladesh has expressed sheer dissatisfaction over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s frequent political statements from India, and urged the Indian government to refrain her from doing so, a spokesperson of the foreign ministry told a press briefing on Thursday.

The government is unhappy with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s frequent political statements in the Indian media and it was conveyed to the Indian government through the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Director General of the Public Diplomacy wing Toufik Hassan said.

“After fleeing the country on August 5, the former prime minister took shelter in India and from there she has been continuously making political statements. We have told the Indian High Commissioner that our government is not happy with this”, he said.

The Indian High Commissioner told us that he would convey the message to his government, he added.

Regarding initiating the process to bring back Hasina from India in line with the International Crimes Tribunal, he said the foreign ministry is yet to get any request from the concerned ministry.

Responding to a question on the issue of Indian visa, he said that the government has also informed the Indian government of this matter, and they had said that they had to halt the processing of some categories of visa due to manpower shortage.

The foreign ministry is trying to ensure that Bangladeshi students, who need to go to India for obtaining third-country visas, can get their visas from other countries like Vietnam or Pakistan, he said.
