Investigation into a robbery case filed a year ago has revealed that a group of suspects first stole cows from Sirajganj and supplied the beef to different super shops in Dhaka, police say.

One of the three arrestees confessed to the crime before a court on Thursday, Sholonga Police chief Ali Aslam said on Saturday, bdnews24.com reports.

The arrestees are Ripon alias Hasan, 24, from Daulatpur Upazila in Manikganj, Zia Hossain, 45, from Ashulia Union of Dhaka, and his associate butcher Abdul Alim, 42, a resident of Bera Upazila of Pabna. Alim is also a tenant in Ashulia.

Zia and Alim were the suppliers.

The police officer said on Apr 17, 2025, before Eid-ul-Azha, Amanullah, a cattle trader and resident of Chattogram, was taking 14 bulls and cows from the northern region to the capital on a pickup van.

At night, the alleged robbers intercepted the pickup van with a truck on the Sirajganj-Bogura Highway and stole the cattle.

Later, Amanullah filed the case against unidentified people at the Sholonga Police Station.

Aslam said Ripon was arrested on Wednesday using information technology.

In his confessional statement at a Sirajganj court the next day, Ripon described how they stole the cattle and sold the beef, naming his associates, said Aslam.

Following Ripon's information, Zia and Alim were arrested, the police officer added.
