The “One Child, One Tree” programme was inaugurated today (Sunday) at Nabagram Government Primary School in Manikganj Sadar, with the aim of building a green and livable Bangladesh for future generations.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam, MP, attended the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest, according to a media release.
In her address, the Minister said, “We have not gathered here merely to inaugurate a programme. We have gathered to pledge our commitment to building a greener Bangladesh for future generations—to place a tree in the hands of a child and to sow the seeds of a beautiful tomorrow through a tree.”
She further said that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the present government is working to build a modern, green and livable Bangladesh.
“We believe that development is not limited to the construction of bridges, roads or buildings. Development becomes meaningful only when nature is protected, the environment remains safe and people become conscious of their responsibilities. Therefore, planting a tree is not merely the act of planting a sapling. It is a pledge, a responsibility and a gift to future generations,” she said.
The Minister expressed her gratitude to the people of Manikganj for placing their trust in her and sought their prayers and continued support for the realization of the dreams and aspirations of the people of Manikganj. Following the address, the Minister formally inaugurated the programme by planting a tree alongside the concerned officials and participants.
The programme was organized by the Manikganj Sadar upazila administration.
Officials from the district and upazila administrations, along with local dignitaries, attended the event, the release adds.
