CTTC arrests one over Facebook love scam

Members of Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested a scammer who made nearly Tk 10 million (1 crore) by conning women through Facebook messenger.

The arrestee was identified as Benajir Hossain, 40, son of Jamir Hossain of Narail district.

Md Asaduzzaman, chief of CTTC unit disclosed the matter while briefing reporters on Monday.

Benajir’s main target was to attract single women through making fake profiles in the social networking site Facebook and he scammed almost Tk 10 million (1 crore) by conning a woman in the past seven months, Tk 1.5 million (15 lakh) from another woman and collected 50 smart phones from a number of women in the same way.

Based on secret information, the CTTC unit arrested Benajir from Khulna’s Phultala while he was withdrawing money from Nagad number on November 21.

He used to con people in guise of district policeman, army and police, and romance and insurance scams, said CTTC chief.

He was also involved in job scam, Hundi business, human trafficking gang and many criminal activities, he said.
