BOGURA, Sept 09: A good number of farmers in Shibganj, Sherpur, Shajahanpur, Sariakanndi, Sonatola and Dhunot upazilas of the district are taking preparation for the cultivation of early winter cauliflowers.

Growers' sources said they have started growing the winter delicacy with the expectation to harvest it from the first week of November.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken a target to bring some 3,400 hectares of land under early winter cauliflower cultivation this season. The farmers have already planted the high-yielding cauliflower saplings on 300 hectares of land.

Early winter cauliflower cultivation is expanding in every season, said sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman.

Farmer Golzar Hossain of under Sherpur upazila said he has cultivated cauliflower on 15 decimals of land spending Tk 12,000."

He expects to earn Tk 50,000 this season.

If the farmers are provided all sorts of support some 30 tonnes to 36 tonnes of production per hectare of land can be possible.

The farmers show more interest to bring more cropland under cauliflower cultivation as they made a good profit last year.

Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Sarker said cauliflower is a popular winter vegetable across the country. Grassroots growers make a good profit by farming the item every season.
