The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has dismissed three separate petitions including a court of contempt filed by both Japanese citizen Nakano Eriko and Bangladesh-born US citizen Imran Sharif regarding their two children.

Earlier both Imran and Nakano filed separate contempt of court petitions against each other over allegations of non-compliance with an apex court order regarding two children.

Japanese mother Eriko also sought permission in a different petition to the top court to travel to Japan with her two children ahead of school's ongoing summer vacation.

An Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, passed the order after hearing three separate petitions.

Senior counsel Barrister Ajmalul Hossain QC and advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir were present on behalf of Japanese mother Eriko in the court.

Senior lawyers Akhtar Imam, lawyers Rashna Imam and Kamal Hossain also attended before the court in favour of Imran Sharif.

Confirming the matter to The Financial Express, advocate Shishir Manir said separate court of contempt petitions, which were filed each other by Imran and Eriko, were dismissed by the apex court.

Even another petition, which was lodged by Eriko to travel to Japan with her children during school’s summer vacation, was also rejected, he added.

Imran married Nakano in 2008. The couple, who had three children, got divorced on January 18, 2021.

On February 13, 2022, the top court ruled that two children of Japanese citizen Nakano and Bangladeshi national Imran will remain with their mother Eriko until a case filed by the father for the custody of the children is settled in a Family Court.
