DEE speed limit violations to face cases from Feb 21

The Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE) company and Dhaka Metropolitan Police will start filing cases against high-speed vehicles on February 21 to keep the country's first expressway safe for people.

First Dhaka Elevated Expressway Operation and Maintenance (FDEEO&M) Company Limited made the announcement at a press conference in Dhaka on Saturday. 

The head of the company's traffic, safety and security department, Hasib Hasan Khan, said they have noticed the majority of vehicles cross the 60 km per hour speed limit to nearly 200 kmph.

On average, about 400 vehicles run at around 100 kmph speed on the expressway.

Besides, many tyre bursts and accident cases are occurred due to the carelessness of the DEE users since the 10km of the expressway opened on September 2, 2023.

The vehicles which will violate the speed limit for three times will be blacklisted for using the DEE forever.

The traffic head said as the high speed threatening the property as well as life of people, the decision to file cases against the speed limit violators has been taken on agreement of all concerned.
