Dhaka-Sylhet rail link halted as train derails in Moulvibazar

Rail communication of Sylhet has been cut off from Dhaka and Chattogram as a train derailed near Kulaura Railway Station in Moulvibazar this afternoon.

After two of its wheels got detached, Jayantika Express, which was coming from Sylhet, derailed at the entrance of Kulaura Railway Station around 12:30pm.

Station master Mohibur Rahman was quoted by local media as saying that around 15-20 passengers travelling in the train sustained injuries.

He explained that they were injured only because they were trying to get off the train in a panic following the accident.

Shipping and Communication Reporters Forum (SCRF), a platform of journalists, recently published a startling report that shows at least 209 people in railway accidents during the last six months.

It blamed lack of people's awareness and poor maintenance of level-crossings and railway bridges by the authorities concerned for the accidents.
