Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said on Wednesday that the greenery of Dhaka city will soon meet international standards.

The greenery of Dhaka city will be realised through completing the ongoing 39.06 kilometre-long (combined) plantation (forestation) projects on both sides of Shyampur, Zirani, Manda and Kalunagar canals in Dhaka, he said.

Taposh made the remarks while inaugurating the reclamation and beautification works of the Manda canal at Shapla Bridge of the Mugda area in Dhaka.

“We know that Dhaka city is still lacking behind the international standards of greenery. We will plant 35,000 trees on both sides of Manda canal,” he said

He said that the area will be turned into a lovely one once the trees are planted.

The mayor hoped to see a visible improvement in the beautification of canals by June next year (2025).

The DSCC has taken the plantation and beautification projects of the canals involving a cost of over Tk 8.98 billion.

Of the amount, Tk 3.97 billion will be spent for the reclamation and beautification of the 8.7 kilometre-long Manda canal.
