DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz on Sunday warned politically influential people of taking necessary actions unless they are able to pay their unpaid taxes and dues accordingly.

"If they don't pay the taxes, the DNCC officials will visit their residences and take legal actions,' said a DNCC statement quoting Mr. Azaz.

He came up with the warning while inaugurating a 'Municipal Tax Fair 2025' at DNCC Zone-

3 office premises in the city's Mohakhali area, it mentioned.

Mr Azaz said payment processes of different types of municipal taxes and services have been simplified through introduction of online payment system.

"We have learned from public hearings that collections of taxes from the citizens are considerably lower than their demand for demand for roads, drainage and other city infrastructure," he said.

He also said the city corporation provides different types of services to all the citizens even to those who don't pay taxes.

Many corporate entities including five-star hotels, private universities and hospitals don't pay taxes despite they avail highest facilities from the DNCC, he mentioned.

Talking about the prevailing crisis centring the permanent employees of the DNCC, he said adequate amount of tax revenue is required to make their payment as well as for making their jobs permanent.

"Keeping the necessity of mobilising more resources to meet such expenses in view, the DNCC has organised the municipal tax fair," said the Administrator.

There are about 25,000 people owing arrear dues of Tk 1,00,000 each while there are many people still remain beyond the tax payers' list, he added.

The DNCC's Municipal Tax Fair 2025 will continue until May 30 at different venues under its 10 zones. Citizens can enjoy rebate of 7.5 per cent at the fairs.
