Five crew members of a lighterage vessel that sank in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday evening were rescued at around Sunday noon.
Sources said the ship named MV Akter Banu loaded with 1800 metric tonnes of wheat sank off Hatiya island and five of the 12 crew members had been missing since then.
A fishing boat rescued the five people from Bhashanchar area in Hatiya.
Md Nabi, joint secretary of the Bangladesh Noujan Federation, said, "We informed a fishing trawler about the missing crew. The condition of the rescued crew members is not so well. They need treatment."
Jahid Hossain, manager (operation) of Litmond Shipping, the agent of the sunken ship, said the lighter ship of Abul Khayer Group carrying 1,800 metric tonnes of wheat sank on Saturday.
