Flood damages 328 roads, 73 bridges in Tangail

The recent flood has damaged 328 roads, 73 bridges and culverts in 11 upazilas of Tangail district creating immense suffering to the local people, LGED office sources said.

Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) office sources said it will need about a total of Tk 2.66 billion (266 crore) to repair the roads and bridges.

LGED office sources also said about 153 kilometres of 38 roads and 170 metres of bridges and culverts have been damaged in sadar upazila,

159km of 40 roads and 56 metres of seven bridges and culverts have been damaged in Bashail upazila.

Moreover,80 kilometers of 8 roads and 35 meters of 10 bridges and culvert of Shakhipur upazila, 124 kilometres of 25 roads and 185 meters of 11 bridges and culvert of Mirzapur upzila,241 kilometres of 71 roads and 302 meters of 13 bridges have been damaged in Delduar upazila, 56 kilometres of 25 roads and 23 meters of two bridges in Bhuapur upazila, 159 kilometres of 35 roads and 76 meteres of 5 bridges in Nagorpur upazila, 115 kilometres of 19 roads and 125 meteres of 5 bridge and culvert in kalihati upazila, 150 kilometres of 34 roads and 530 metres of bridge and culvert in Ghatail upazila, 82 kilometres of 22 roads and 86 meters of seven bridges and culverts of Dhanbari upazila and39 kilometers of 10 roads and 253 meters of 5 bridge and culverts of Gpalpur upazila have been damaged.

Azhar Miah, chairman of union parishad Mogra under sadar upazila said, approach road of Louhjong River Bridge at Barabashalia has been damaged, snapping the communication with district town.

Golam Azom, chief engineer of LGED said flood in the current year is staying for a long time, thats why communication sector is incurring a huge loss.
