A complaint has been filed with the local police station alleging that 167 litres of petrol have been looted from a filling station in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur after launching an attack on it.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sohel Rana of Pirganj Police Station confirmed the matter on Sunday morning, reports UNB.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on Friday night when a group of people, armed with locally made weapons, launched a sudden attack on Ujjal Filling Station.
During the attack, they assaulted meter man Farhad Mia and threatened to kill him allegedly holding a knife around his throat.
Fearing for his life, Farhad took shelter inside the station. The attackers then switched on the fuel pump and filled around 167 litres of petrol into cans and motorcycles they had brought with them, before fleeing the scene.
The accused named in the complaint include Haniful Islam, 42, Raju Mia, 35, Sohel Mia, 28, Nahid Mia, 21, and Russell Mia, 26, along with 10-15 unidentified individuals.
Station manager Ruhul Amin alleged that the accused carried out the attack in a “film style”. “The entire episode was captured on the station’s CCTV cameras.”
OC Sohel Rana said police have received the complaint and an investigation is underway. “Legal action will be taken based on the findings.”
